NFL Week 6 Predictions

Note: Predictions for week 6 of the 2008 NFL season can be found here: NFL Week 6 Predictions.

NFL logo I’m in Boston this week for some training for the new job and they’re keeping us pretty busy. With that in mind, I’ll have to keep this week’s entry pretty short to make sure I still get it published on time.

Last week I faired pretty well with an 11-3 record to bring my total for this season up to 51-25. It was a crazy week again, but that’s all part of the fun! Huge thanks to Eric for TiVo-ing the Packers game for me! Even though they lost, it was still good times! I owe ya one.

Oh, and thanks to ESPN for giving us (Canadians) a bunch of Thanksgiving props on Monday Night Football. It was a nice touch while I sat in my hotel room :) Speaking of MNF, WOW! That was one crazy game and the Cowboys were extremely lucky to come away with a win. Too bad Green Bay couldn’t do the same against the Bears after all their turnovers.

Game of the Week: Patriots at Cowboys

My excitement for this game dropped a little bit during Monday night’s brutal performance (at least for the first 50 minutes of the game) by the Cowboys, but this should still be as good a regular season match-up as any. If the Cowboys play to their potential (and don’t turn the ball over 6 times), they could seriously push the Patriots close to losing their undefeated record. Having said that, if the Patriots play to their potential… they’ll win.

Here my predictions for week 6:

Away Home Comments Pick Result
Minnesota Vikings Logo Vikings
(2-3)
Chicago Bears Logo Bears
(2-4)
The Bears offense finally looked like they knew what they were doing last week against Green Bay. They still have some issues with their running game, but they should be able to build on last week’s win this week with another one against the Vikings. Chicago Bears Logo Minnesota Vikings Logo
St. Louis Rams Logo Rams
(0-6)
Baltimore Ravens Logo Ravens
(4-2)
I think the Ravens will need to score more than 9 points this week to beat the Rams. Even though their offense is sputtering, I just can’t pick the Rams to win right now. Baltimore Ravens Logo Baltimore Ravens Logo
Cincinnati Bengals Logo Bengals
(1-4)
Kansas City Chiefs Logo Chiefs
(3-3)
The Bengals have been a huge disappointment this season so far. They’ve had a week off to sit and think about it and try and correct their issues. I’m looking for them to win against KC this week, but it might be close. Cincinnati Bengals Logo Kansas City Chiefs Logo
Philadelphia Eagles Logo Eagles
(2-3)
New York Jets Logo Jets
(1-5)
After a week off, Brian Westbrook should back in the lineup this week against a Jets team who just haven’t been good this year. That bodes well for the Eagles because their offense is usually pretty successful with him on the field. Philadelphia Eagles Logo Philadelphia Eagles Logo
Houston Texans Logo Texans
(3-3)
Jacksonville Jaguars Logo Jaguars
(4-1)
Jacksonville still worries me on a week-to-week basis. I think they’ll continue to get more consistent as the season moves along and David Garrard becomes more and more comfortable being the every-day starter. Again, I still feel like this certainly isn’t a “no-brainer” pick, but I think the Jags should get it done. Jacksonville Jaguars Logo Jacksonville Jaguars Logo
Tennessee Titans Logo Titans
(3-2)
Tampa Bay Buccaneers Logo Buccaneers
(4-2)
I think this one will be pretty close. Tampa was humbled by the Colts last week and the Titans were off. Both of these teams are pretty good, so it makes it a difficult pick. Titans get the nod though. Tennessee Titans Logo Tampa Bay Buccaneers Logo
Miami Dolphins Logo Dolphins
(0-6)
Cleveland Browns Logo Browns
(3-3)
If I picked a “stinker of the week” every week, this one would be it. I’ll take the Browns though because the Dolphins are now in very tough without Trent Green. Cleveland Browns Logo Cleveland Browns Logo
Washington Redskins Logo Redskins
(3-2)
Green Bay Packers Logo Packers
(5-1)
If the Packers would’ve played like they did in the first half for their entire game on Sunday night, they would’ve been fine, but just barely. You just can’t turn the ball over that many times. I think they’ll right the ship, but they’re going to need to play well against an improving Redskins team this week. Green Bay Packers Logo Green Bay Packers Logo
Carolina Panthers Logo Panthers
(4-2)
Arizona Cardinals Logo Cardinals
(3-3)
Crazy how the schedule works itself out. Both of these teams lost their starting QB’s for the rest of the season last week. Unfortunately for the Panthers, their “backup” isn’t named Kurt Warner. Arizona Cardinals Logo Carolina Panthers Logo
New England Patriots Logo Patriots
(6-0)
Dallas Cowboys Logo Cowboys
(5-1)
After Dallas’ stinker on MNF last week, I have a lot more confidence in the Patriots winning this one this week. New England Patriots Logo New England Patriots Logo
Oakland Raiders Logo Raiders
(2-3)
San Diego Chargers Logo Chargers
(3-3)
Finally the Chargers stepped up! Look for the trend to continue this week, but I only say that because it’s the Raiders. San Diego Chargers Logo San Diego Chargers Logo
New Orleans Saints Logo Saints
(1-4)
Seattle Seahawks Logo Seahawks
(3-3)
Seattle was just plain bad last week against the Steelers, but the Saints have been just plain bad all season long. Seattle Seahawks Logo New Orleans Saints Logo
New York Giants Logo Giants
(4-2)
Atlanta Falcons Logo Falcons
(1-5)
It seems like a long time ago when things were looking really bad for the Giants. 3 wins in a row later and that’s all a distant memory. New York Giants Logo New York Giants Logo
Note: the 49ers (2-3), Bills (1-4), Broncos (2-3), Colts (5-0), Lions (3-2) and Steelers (4-1) have a bye week this week.

Here are this week’s ESPN Expert Picks. Check back after the games for more thoughts and updates on week 6.

Update: Well, it wasn’t a great week this week, but I still managed to pull off 8 correct picks (and 5 incorrect ones) to bring my total for the season up to 59-30. I’m not such a fan of the weeks where there are 6 teams on a bye, there just aren’t enough games for me to get right… or wrong as the case may be. Check back Tuesday for my week 7 picks!
