Sour Note

How to end of your first week at a new job (and go into a long weekend) on a sour note:

  1. Sit at your desk in an unassuming manner, going about your business.
  2. Be interrupted by one of the staff of the office building your company is housed in.
  3. Have said office building staff member ask for you by name.
  4. Have said office building staff member inform you that your car has been smashed into in the parking lot and that no note has been left on your now-even-more-devalued vehicle.
  5. Leave office and inspect damage to find shattered pieces of your tail-light, major rub marks on your bumper, and a flat tire just for good measure.

How to respond to a sour note such as the afformentioned:

  1. Get over it.
  2. Do what you need to do to make it right again.
  3. If making it right involves significant personal cost, remain in state of “gotten over it.” (it will keep you sane).
  4. Take pictures:

    Smashed

  5. Have a great long weekend regardless.
  6. (optional) Write sarcastic blog post.

Oh man, that would suck. Sorry that happened on your last day.

Enjoy your new job, and the long weekend!

Actually, it happened on the last day of my first week at the new job, so I’ve already started. But thanks Chris, I hope you have a great long weekend as well!

That blows.

At my old place in Boston .. drunkards would routinely walk down the street kicking off as many side mirrors as they could.

Drunk college kids and old people who mistake the gas pedal for the brake suck.
