After 3 weeks of action in the NFL this season, my record sits at a respectable 33-15. Last week was every bit as interesting as I thought it would be, and I’m personally very happy that the Packers won again.
YUI Theater

Anyone who works with advanced JavaScript on a regular basis will tell you that it’s one of the most misunderstood and under documented languages there is. Fortunately though, the resources are getting better and I just thought I’d draw attention to one of the better ones I’ve enjoyed over the past little while.
Yahoo!’s YUI library has been increasing in popularity over the past year or so, and for good reason—Yahoo! has done a lot of great work with YUI. One of the great things about YUI is that it’s probably one of the most thoroughly documented JavaScript libraries around. Personally I think that one of the things that makes a language like PHP so popular is the great documentation that the PHP developers have released alongside it. Unfortunately, I can’t say the same thing for some of the JavaScript libraries out there… which in turn make some of them a bit of a chore to work with.

After starting strong in week 1, I had hoped to fair a little better than the 10-6 record I posted last week, but in my defense, there were a lot of surprises in week 2. This week will probably be no different because the schedule has a lot of games on it that I’m really unsure about. On paper, it’s just a breeding ground for surprising finishes.

Last week I got off to a really good start by going 12-4 with my picks for week 1, and what an exciting weekend it was! As always during the first few weeks of an NFL season, there were a few surprises, but the story of week 1 was injuries. It’s extremely tragic what happened to Buffalo’s Kevin Everett and I really hope for the best. So far things are looking up, so let’s hope that they continue to improve.

There’s a good chance that you’ve already heard about this from some of the other sites that you frequent, but on the off chance that you haven’t, I thought I’d point it out just in case. On Labour Day, Khoi Vinh and Liz Danzico launched a great new design opinion site called A Brief Message. Rather than trying to explain what the site is all about myself, I’ll just echo what came straight from the horse’s mouth:
Are you ready for some football?

It’s finally here! Well, it’s been one long wait since Peyton Manning and the Colts were victorious in Super Bowl XLI and February seems like it was a very long time ago. I’m excited about this season, I’m sick of watching baseball and I’m back with my weekly picks on all the action in the NFL.
Sour Note

How to end of your first week at a new job (and go into a long weekend) on a sour note:
- Sit at your desk in an unassuming manner, going about your business.
- Be interrupted by one of the staff of the office building your company is housed in.
- Have said office building staff member ask for you by name.
- Have said office building staff member inform you that your car has been smashed into in the parking lot and that no note has been left on your now-even-more-devalued vehicle.
- Leave office and inspect damage to find shattered pieces of your tail-light, major rub marks on your bumper, and a flat tire just for good measure.
How to respond to a sour note such as the afformentioned:
