Last week I had another terrible week of predictions going 6-8 to bring my total to 71-43. I’m still a little ahead of where I was at this point last year, but I’d like to be doing a bit better.

Last week was another exciting week in the NFL featuring more big upsets and a bunch of last-second finishes. Although week 7 saw my first sub .500 week of predictions, my running total is still sitting at a respectable 65-35 (65%).
IE Conditional Comment Update

Well, with Internet Explorer 7 now released to the public, I thought I’d post a short update to a post I wrote back in May about Serving Up IE Specific Stylesheets.
IE 7 is better than IE 6 as it should be; it only took Microsoft 5 years between releases and a lot of things have changed since then. From a developer’s standpoint though, IE 7 is significantly better with its CSS support. Transparent PNGs are in, dotted 1 pixel borders are actually dotted (as opposed to dashed), the “double-float margin bug” is history, the :hover pseudo-class is supported across the board, etc. etc. etc.

What a crazy week it was! Week 6 saw a lot of surprises and some crazy finishes, but I still finished up 9-4 with my picks. Last week brought my total for 2006 to 59-28 (.678).
What are your RSS habits?
October 11, 2006, 10:02 PM | 4 Comments
I’ve read a couple of postings over the past few days on the state of personal websites these days (Jeffrey Zeldman’s “Blahg” and Greg Storey’s answer to that over at Airbag titled “Boxes”) and they (and some of their comments) have gotten me to thinking about how people use RSS feeds.
This isn’t the first time that I’ve wondered about this, but lately it seems like there’s more and more talk about how RSS feeds are being used, and what the “best” way to serve feeds to your readers is. With IE7 (and it’s built in RSS support) about to hit the main stream, RSS is also about to be exposed to most Windows users who haven’t previously heard about the technology.

Well, I had a great week of picks last week going 12-2 and bringing my overall record up to 50-24 (.676). Week 6 is an odd week because there are only 13 games with 6 teams on a bye week.
Why the Penguins should move to Kitchener/Waterloo
October 5, 2006, 6:47 PM | 11 Comments
TSN broke this story yesterday, but now it’s official. Jim Balsillie, Chairman and Co-CEO of Waterloo-based Research In Motion (makers of the BlackBerry) has purchased the Pittsburgh Penguins.
The plan is to keep the Pens in Steel Town, but only as long as they get a new arena to replace the 45 year old Mellon Arena. If they don’t get that new home, I think they should move to Kitchener/Waterloo, and here’s why:

Portfolio Updated!
October 4, 2006, 9:21 PM | 4 Comments
Well, it’s been in the works for a while now, but I’ve finally gotten down to finishing up the updates to my portfolio. So, go ahead and check it out!
I’ve decided to let my portfolio take on more of a standard blog format rather than the typical portfolio format that I’ve seen on other sites. Here are some of my main reasons for following the blog format:
- Hopefully this will make my portfolio a little easier to update, and in turn should lead to more frequent updates to the portfolio as I complete different projects.
- Portfolios are somewhat chronological in nature (just like a blog) and should show a progression of skills. If you look at my older work (as opposed to my most recent work), you’ll see a lot of change in the methods I’ve used to build each site.
- I’ve never seen anyone else present their portfolio in this fashion, so I figured I’d try something new. As with anything on this site, nothing can be considered “finished”, so if I decide that I don’t like the new format after a while, it may change to take on a new persona.
- It should make it easier for me to announce the projects I’ve been working on, as well as providing an outlet for people to learn from my work via comments and on-going discussion.
I’m excited about the new portfolio section and to celebrate I’ve added one new project that I completed back in March, RapidMind. I haven’t been posting all the projects I’ve worked on in the last year just because I haven’t really made the time to do it, so obviously I have some catching up to do. You can expect some more updates in the next little while. For now, check out the portfolio and let me know what you think!
NFL Week 5 Predictions

Last week was full of surprises and many crazy outcomes. I had a horrible week of predictions, but I knew I had taken a few risks last week in the first place. Unfortunately, those risks didn’t pay off for me, but that’s the exciting part of the NFL… you never know what’s going to happen and there are no guarantees.
