Note: Predictions for week 8 of the 2008 NFL season can be found here: NFL Week 8 Predictions.
My picks this week are a little later than previous weeks. It’s been a busy one, but I haven’t forgotten.
Last week I ended up going 9-4, which isn’t terrible, but I’d still like to do better. I’m still about 9 games behind the best of the ESPN guys, so I’ll need some really good weeks if I want to catch up.
ESPN Expert Picks: Last Week | This Week.
Now, my predictions for week 8!

Arizona Cardinals (2-4) at Dallas Cowboys (4-3) - Last week Dallas lost a heart breaker against the Seahawks, I’m expecting that they’ll rebound quickly and beat Arizona quite easily. Dallas does have some questions because of injuries, but I don’t think that Arizona is good enough. Pick: Cowboys.

Chicago Bears (3-3) at Detroit Lions (3-3) - The Lions have momentum going into this game. They’ve got Jeff Garcia in at QB, and he proved last week that he’s still got what it takes. However, he’s missing his top 3 receivers this week, and I think that may cause problems. Chicago’s defense has been playing well all year. I think that will be the difference, but I think it’ll be close. Pick: Bears.

Cleveland Browns (2-4) at Houston Texans (0-6) - The Texans are still looking for their first win, and regardless of when they get it, this is still going to be a long year for them. I’m kind of unsure about this pick though, because if Houston is going to win, it will be at home against a lower caliber team like the Browns. Pick: Browns.

Green Bay Packers (1-5) at Cincinnati Bengals (5-2) - Alright, last week the Packers lost to Minnesota, in a game they controlled for the first half. In the second half, their defense let up and Minnesota stole the game. Give Culpepper credit, he never gave up, and did all he needed to to guide his team to victory. The Packers lost another key player for the year in Ahman Green, and #2 (#3 if Javon Walker was playing) receiver Robert Ferguson will be out for a month. It’s up to a lot of inexperienced players to step up for the Pack. I really do hope that I’m wrong with my pick, but I just can’t pick the Packers to win this game. Pick: Bengals.

Jacksonville Jaguars (4-2) at St. Louis Rams (3-4) - St. Louis is struggling with injuries to their top receivers, that will probably be the difference in this game. Pick: Jaguars.
![]()
Minnesota Vikings (2-4) at Carolina Panthers (4-2) - Minnesota never gave up last week and got win #2 for the season. Now they go down to Carolina in what will be a very tough game for them. Pick: Panthers.
![]()
Oakland Raiders (2-4) at Tennessee Titans (2-5) - Look for the Raiders to make a push for the playoffs in the second half of the season. Last week I picked against the Raiders because I thought Randy Moss wasn’t going to play. Well, he did play - and he caught a touchdown pass. The Titans will get Steve McNair back this week, but that probably wont be enough to beat Oakland. Pick: Raiders.
![]()
Washington Redskins (4-2) at New York Giants (4-2) - I was very surprised last week when the Giants beat the Broncos. I think they’re a good team, and if Plaxico Burress does play this week, they should be able to get the win even against a tough Washington defense. Pick: Giants.
![]()
Kansas City Chiefs (4-2) at San Diego Chargers (3-4) - The Chargers pretty much need this game to stay in the division race. Know it’s early, but they can’t afford to lose division games. Give Tomlinson the ball! Pick: Chargers.
![]()
Miami Dolphins (2-4) at New Orleans Saints (2-5) - This week the Saints play their first ‘home’ game of the year in Louisiana. Playing in Baton Rouge should be enough of an emotional lift to power them past the Dolphins. Pick: Saints.
![]()
Philadelphia Eagles (4-2) at Denver Broncos (5-2) - Denver probably shouldn’t have lost to the Giants last week, but this week they’re at home, where they usually play very well. Denver, Philadelphia and New England are probably the toughest places in the league right now to be a visiting team. Pick: Broncos.
![]()
Tampa Bay Buccaneers (5-1) at San Francisco 49ers (1-5) - The 49ers are going to have a hard time winning many more games this season. Pick: Buccaneers.
![]()
Buffalo Bills (3-4) at New England Patriots (3-3) - Patriots. Division game. At home. The return of their defense’s leader Tedy Bruschi?. Pick: Patriots.
![]()
Baltimore Ravens (2-4) at Pittsburgh Steelers (4-2) - Should be a great Monday night game if the Ravens bring their offense. If not, it’ll probably be a one sided game. Pick: Steelers.
Note: Atlanta (5-2), Indianapolis (7-0), New York Jets (2-5) and Seattle (5-2) have a bye week this week.
